LIFETIME METHOD TO UPDATE MY LONGTERM WARDROBE

LIFETIME METHOD TO UPDATE MY LONGTERM WARDROBE

An eye for DETAILS and/ or accessories are also what prevent a personal style from becoming boring. For myself it also important the quality of the fabric or the used materials.
Since the first time I bought clothes for myself. I preferred to purchase a selection of carefully chosen pieces on a constant theme; longivety, basic and especially not the trend of that moment...It wouldn't last as the collection I have extended as it is nowadays.
Pretending my body will never change (right), the clothes has to last forever.

I have dresses from the beginning when I started to buy designer clothing, I can still wear them today. Through 23 years of directly and indirectly working in the area of fashion, I extended my personal wardrobe as it it is nowadays. Started at the base, to invest a shitload in hardly visible but very important items, basics, to have a basic stock.
For example basic clothes by Helmut Lang. His most expensive formal clothes have the ease and simplicity of everyday stuff, but the correctness and detailing of ready-to-wear.

I have my own, unorthodox,or perhaps avant garde style is a better word to use, utterly original and totally consistent, own look which became my signature. Never ever ruled by the flows of trends. Not even for all those years when I worked at a trendcompany as a trendwatcher/ trendresearcher. It's for Mi about exclusive, embellishment, vintage clothing, you can buy pieces of fashion designers which you were never be able to,  mixed and personally adapted with pieces of the new collection.

What makes fashion personal is just the way things are put together. In order to create several looks, but only one style. My personal taste became more and more self-assured in a few years from the start. Which is most of the time overdressed for that particular moment (daily work) or sort of evening wear into daily wear, not to mention is it functional or not.
When I do have a special occasion I really have to pull out everything in order to look real special.

Like last saturday when I went out for a lunch with one of my dearest friends. She was beautiful dressed in Haider Ackermann.. And I wore my beloved Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain, black Swarovski boots. All that glitters... all those crystals. To wear these Crystal boots on any given day, you have to stick to one piece which draw the attention. And then toning down the rest of your outfit to balance it.

GOING OUTSIDE

Cashmere & leather coat Helmut Lang Authentic, before Helmut Lang given up the rights to his name, he is currently not designing anywhere.

Vintage Yves Saint Laurent bag,
era Tom Ford for Yves Saint Laurent

Boots, Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain Swarovski crystal boots,

This doesn't mean that my clothing has a lot of exaggerating details, tassles zippers or a many other unneccessary accents- and or details. It's rather plain, pure and simple in the meaning of absolute perfectness, I prefer rather minimalism. With an option to accessorize.

Though the clothes itself speaks for themselves and its a combination of the selection, made at the moment I purchased it. The result at the end is somehow more outspoken, sort statement. It also depends what kind of shoes I have chosen to wear with the outfit. Shoes is definitely something you can complete an outfit, or destroy it. I've got a lot of extravagant models.
A few photo's of some of my shoes
Pythonleather platform booties Christian Louboutin
This is another subject to talk about for the next time, You always want more. even when you have dozen pair of shoes. Love, love, love shoes, the more the merrier and with skyhigh heels. More then enough to talk about.....
Platform peep toe stilettopump Charlotte Olympia
My personal style is also based on the selection of chosen fashion designers which are my favorites and it happens I look good in them.

The following fashiondesigners are my alltime favorites:
Maison Martin Margiela, Balenciaga, Costume National, Helmut lang authentic, Yves Saint Laurent especially Tom Ford for YSL, Alexander McQueen, Lanvin, Celine, Hermes (especially Martin Margiela for Hermes) because it's so hysterical classic. And they have my all time favorite scent: Hermes 24, rue de Faubourg, but I haven't got a single piece pice of them, I can't afford it. And vintage Hermes is sometimes even more expensive. But I would love to have something from Hermes ofcourse, besides the scarfs.
And I'm a huge Lover of Olivier Theyskens. When he was designing for himself. I have some pieces, my treasures from his collections in the beginning of his career.

Thinking about the best show collections (always in the back of my head) I search and scroll on the internet, hoping to find a piece of a specific fashionshow having in my mind. With all the patience and absolute confidence to find it somewhere. Besides visiting outlets, sample sales, stock sales, private sales, garage sales etc. I surf on the internet.

One of a very good source in order to get one of my favorite items is searhing on ebay. Not to become addicted or obsessed of Ebay, you have to strict yourself to certain rules. But later more about that...Just Another subject to talk about...

I added a new post at TIPS AND TRICKS BY MI

Vintage Clothing

VINTAGE CLOTHING

Vintage clothing it's subjective, not everyone defines the same clothing as vintage'' There is a difference between second hand clothing of more recent to date clothing. Also known as off-season designer clothing.
Vintage designer clothing has become a brand in itself. Today's vintage is a very broad term and even off-season designer clothing is nowadays included as the term vintage. Vintage clothing was often associated with used clothing, out of full bins of sweaters, accessories etc. you could purchased a kilo of clothing. Smelly rooms with dirty air ofunventilated clothing. And most of the time, the same range of collection to offer.

On the auction site ebay there are broad-shouldered Dynasty-style robes and other clothes, barely a quarter century ago of still active fashion designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, touted as vintage, or like a Prada blouse which is just from a few seasons back.

What's so special about vintage clothing and- /or to hunt after vintage clothing.
Almost every garment is unique.
Exclusive, contributes to a distinctive style of dress. Which helps to maintain your own personal style. Personal style is easy to recognise, yet impossible to imitate. The elusive quality that defines a true fashion independent individual. It's all about this personal style thing these days.

I like it if clothes look vintage, but I really like it when they don't. I LIKE THEM THE MOST WHEN THEY LOOK LIKE NEW

These Balmain boots aren't vintage "vintage" but they were definitely a designer "off season" bargain. Won on Ebay

Dress, Jean Paul Gaultier
Boots, Giuseppi Zanotti for Balmain

Looking and working with vintage: It's a pleasure to look for the clothes, it's a pleasure to find them, it's a pleasure to work on them and it's a pleasure to match with your clothing of the new season. And it will be a pleasure to sell them....

Another Terroir - Marc Schuilenburg

About a year ago, in my quest to find the best name to use in order for a basic t-shirt collection. Which I was selected to design, I got introduced to the term Another Terroir by a very dear friend of mine. He got me inspired and now I'm using it as the name of my weblog: Another Terroir Vintage Designer Clothing, also for my website www.anotherterroir.com ( still under construction though) and for my future (web-) shop Vintage Designer Clothing.
As I 'm using the term another terroir, this same friend,- he is a Lecturer at the VU University Amsterdam. Course: ‘Prevention and Punishment’ - is referring and using the term terroir in one of his articles and as an example in his thesis.

1st blog WHO IS Mi?
Mi EATS, DRINKS AND SLEEPS FASHION

I am passionate about fashion, fascinated with it. With its trends and dynamic.
No area in our world changes as fast.
From the time I got my first clothing allowance I am extending my personal wardrobe. I’d rather buy a nice "often expensive" special designer piece. Later on that would preferably be a piece that had been showed on the runway.
Fashion is an art to me. I collected a huge wardrobe it seems, in all those years. Also being a great lover and collector of vintage designer clothing. In my clothing room there is a second freezer. This to get rid of possible clothing moths, in here, my silk & cashmere sweaters-and / or dresses etc, are put in the freezer. It needs 10 days to get rid of the possible moths. Some of my clothing lay in there for over 4 months, there's starting a lack of space to occur. The freezer, it's now also a sort of small cabinet....

Having done some pretty excessive/ obsessed behaviour in order to maintain a particular clothing item (some one may recall)
To give some more examples how willful I can be.
Once there was a concert of Marilyn Manson in the london Arena, I had tickets to this concert to go. As I am, I refuse to participate this concert as a look-a-like version of him, why should I? Isn't he the one who represents free will, create your own personality and individuality. Therefore I had set my mind to be dressed as fashionable as possible for this occasion. I decided to go in black and gold. Only I didn't have anything in proper gold. Heading off into something gold, there it was the perfect top for that concert, only this time not a vintage/ off season designer piece. But newer then new, a gold metal brass square front with three small backchains. It costed me a shitload, I really mean looots of money, 4 digits in total. Without calculate a pair of shoes to add. I found stiletto booties of Versace (for heavensake! thankfully the logo was that tiny, you have to take out your magnifying glass to see where it is) it matched so well with the gold top because of the small gold detail on the backside of the shoe
:-) During the concert it took less then 15 minutes and the backchain snapped....

Trousers Costume National,
Expensive Gold mesh top

Not yet to talk about the times that was persuaded to buy something. Ofcourse beyond beautiful and beyond this 'one and only' chance. purchases as in unexpected expenses. Not taking into any of my budgets. To purchase that absolute fantastic Rick Owens leather top, a bargain which really add to my wardrobe. I only had 10 days left of that same month, to eat from 1 jar of peanutbutter

Or to get the train and go to Antwerp or Paris just to buy that one particular item I had my eye on. For me that wasn't really excessive behaviour. Just a nice trip to make. Having said that I remember my first expensive purchase, when I was 17 short gray wool jacket by Jean Paul Gaultier.

On the photo’s you can see how beautifully crafted this piece is. The wonderful finishing of the seams and the great cut. Even the label is to love for and I still wear this jacket today! I might even insert new sleeves someday…
